The Map Editor

After you have entered your title and description, you will be taken to the map editor. The map editor consists of several key elements.

Map Controls

While in the editor, you will want to move and zoom in on the map to precisely place your markers. The map controls are a good way for you navigate.





The Tools

The main functionality of the map editor is in the tools panel. You will notice that you have three main tools to use. The pointer to select individual and groups of points. The hand tool to move the map around. The marker tool allows you to add new markers by clicking on a point on the map.





Marker Panel

With either the selection tool or when adding markers, a marker or group of markers can be selected. When they are selected, the marker panel will be displayed next to the marker(s). This panel will present you with several options from which you can edit info window content, change the marker appearance, enter an exact latitude / longitude position, or delete a marker. When one of these options is selected a pop up will be displayed.





Info Window Content

When Info Window Content is selected for a marker or group of markers from the marker panel, a pop up will appear that will allow you to edit the title and description of the marker that will display in an info window when this marker is clicked by a user.





Marker Appearance

The fill and outline of a marker can be changed by selecting a color, transparency and thickness in the Marker Appearance Window. In this window that is display after a marker is selected and the appearance icon is clicked in the marker panel, you can also set a letter or number index for the marker.





Marker Position

A latitude / longitude position may also be entered in the marker position window to move to a marker to a more precise location.





Save and Export Buttons

When you are finished editing your map, there is a save button and an export to ActionScript link. The save button will save your data and then allow you to continue editing. After you have saved and want to view your map as others would, please see the map owner controls below. The export to ActionScript button will give you the source code to take and use in flash in conjunction with the UMap component.
